FAQ

Straight answers, before you decide.

Common questions about our letters, fees, and California unclaimed property claims.

What is Unclaimed Property?

It's money or assets a business has lost contact with the owner of — dormant bank accounts, uncashed paychecks or refund checks, insurance payouts, utility deposits, stocks and dividends. After a period set by state law, the business must turn it over to the State, which holds it until the rightful owner claims it. It does not expire.

How did you find me?

Unclaimed property records maintained by state governments are generally public records. Wealth Recovery Partners analyzes those records, together with other publicly available information, to identify individuals who may have unclaimed property. Our goal is to help reunite owners with property they may not know exists or may have difficulty recovering on their own.

Are you affiliated with the State?

No. Wealth Recovery Partners is a private company and is not affiliated with, employed by, or acting on behalf of any state government or unclaimed property administrator. We assist clients by researching claims, preparing supporting documentation, organizing claim packages, and communicating with state agencies when appropriate. Any recovered funds are paid directly by the State to the rightful owner—we never receive or hold your money.

How much does this cost?

Nothing upfront. We are paid only if you are — 10% only on successful recovery — and a written agreement comes before filing.

Why do you charge a fee?

Our fee covers the time, expertise, research, claim preparation, communication, and support required throughout the recovery process. If we do not recover your property, you do not owe us a fee.

If I never receive assets, what will I owe Wealth Recovery Partners?

Absolutely nothing. If we do not recover your property, you do not owe us a fee.

When will I receive these assets?

Processing times vary depending on the State, claim complexity, and whether additional documentation is required. In practice, the State's review commonly takes several months. We will keep you updated and you can call us for a status update at any point.

Do I receive the money directly?

Yes. Once approved, payment is issued directly to you by the State. We never receive or hold your funds.

Can I file the claim myself?

Yes. In many cases, you have the right to file a claim directly with the State without using a recovery service. Some claims are relatively straightforward and can be completed without professional assistance. Others involve deceased owners, heirs, trusts, co-owners, probate issues, missing documentation, ownership disputes, or other legal or procedural complexities. Wealth Recovery Partners helps clients navigate those more complicated situations by identifying the documentation required, preparing organized claim packages, responding to requests for additional information, and guiding clients through the process from beginning to end.

Why can't the State simply send me the money?

State unclaimed property offices make reasonable efforts to locate owners, but people move, change their names, change email addresses, or lose contact with financial institutions over time. Before releasing property, the State must verify that it is paying the correct person. Depending on the claim, this may require proof of identity, ownership, inheritance, trust authority, or other supporting documentation. Our role is to help clients assemble the documentation needed to satisfy those requirements and present the strongest claim possible.

Why do you need my Social Security card?

We never ask for your Social Security number or bank details to verify your claim online. Later, if you decide to move forward, the State requires identity verification before it will release unclaimed property, to ensure it is released only to the rightful owner. At that point we will explain exactly which documents are needed for your particular claim and why.

Do you only handle California claims?

California is our primary focus. If you believe you have unclaimed property in another state, contact us anyway — depending on the situation we may handle the claim directly, help you understand the process, help gather documentation, coordinate with the appropriate state, or refer you to another qualified resource.
